It’s officially summer! It may not look like it in the UK, but June 21st marked the summer solstice, so we’re on our way to short nights and longer days – hopefully some of those will be sunny.
Self care is important no matter what time of year we’re in. I’ve found that the summer months can really affect my physical and mental wellbeing, so I thought I’d share some of my summer self care tips with you all.
If you sometimes find yourself in need of a pick-me-up, this is the blog post for you. Keep reading for some uplifting, energising, and practical summer self care tips.

Summer Clean Your House
Freshening up your home isn’t just for spring; get summer ready by decluttering and turning your home into your own personal paradise. Decluttering is a great way to make extra money as you can sell things you no longer need. Freeing up more room and creating a less cluttered living area is also brilliant for your mental health.
Switch Up Your Workouts
If you don’t work out much – now is a great time to start. The sunny days always make me feel really motivated to get up and get going! I find it easiest to wake up early and exercise straight away, before my body knows what it’s doing. However, if this isn’t an option for you, try taking advantage of the longer days by taking your workout outside. We aren’t aiming to get skinny, we’re aiming to get moving and make the most of the summer sunshine.
There are plenty of ways to switch up your workouts, so whether you’re looking for an activity to do once the weather cools down, such as running with your dog, or you’re searching for new running routes to take you on a scenic adventure, switching up your routine during the summer is a great way to keep things interesting.
Get Your Steps In
Speaking of working out, another way to take advantage of the longer days and the lovely weather is to get outside and go for a walk. Challenge yourself to hit your steps goal every day, whether you start easy with a 5k goal, or whether you try your best to hit the 10k mark each day. Remember not to beat yourself up if you don’t reach your goal, the point is to get outside, enjoy nature and get moving.
Every Body Is A Beach Body
Stop comparing yourself to everybody else. Worried your body isn’t beach ready? Well, I’ve got a secret – so is everyone else. Seriously, everyone is always so worried about how they look on the beach and how their body compares to others, that they don’t have the time to judge anyone else. Put on that 2 piece and strut yourself, life is too short to miss out on fun just because you were worried about what other people would think of you.
Wear sunscreen
This is a no brainer, wear your sun cream! Protect your skin from those UV rays because no amount of ‘sunkissed’ skin is worth the damage that can be caused.
Overexposure to harmful UV rays can lead to a variety of issues from a basic sunburn to a severe case of skin cancer, so you must make an effort to keep up with a constant sun creek application routine for the sake of your health. In recent years it’s become apparent that certain sunscreen formulas actually do more harm than good, so make sure you can aim to find a more natural, chemical free sunscreen to reduce side effects. Always apply your sunscreen again after a couple of hours, as sweating or taking a dip in a swimming pool can weaken its strength.
Enjoy Seasonal Produce
There are certain foods that you can get to enjoy at their very best during the hot summer months, and there’s no better way to take care of yourself than indulge in a delightful seasonal fruit bowl or vegetable salad. Making the most of seasonal produce will be a taste sensation, as you’ll get the chance to cook up new recipes that you would never get to enjoy in the colder months. You can totally upgrade your muesli with a handful of fresh sun ripened berries, so go now to find some delicious food options and seasonal produce to eat with glee this summer. Light meals are always best when it’s super hot outdoors, as big meals that are carb heavy can make you feel sluggish and tired.
